Valencia is one of the largest cities in Spain, and among the liveliest. It is located right on the Mediterranean Sea, overlooking the gulf of Valencia, just in front of the Balearic Islands. The capital of the Valencian community is without a doubt more then just a capital city. A modern network makes Valencia easily accessible, and links Valencia to other important Spanish and European cities.
The Valencian sunny beaches are famous throughout Europe and the Mediterranean. Its more than 100 km of coastline with a large number of cities to the seaside have been awarded with the European Blue Flag for the high quality of its beaches. This distinctive is the internationally recognized symbol of security for its conditions and facilities. The best known beaches in Valencia are Las Arenas, la Malvarrosa and Alboraya.
The first word that comes to mind when talking about Valencian cuisine is Paella. The popularity of this typical dish of Valencia is known and loved around the world, even to become a national symbol. This dish was originally made up of leftovers such as rice, snails, and vegetables and in special occasions, rabbit or chicken.
La Semana Santa or Holly Week is a very important event in the Maritime neighbourhood of the city, where the inhabitants join in colourful processions which represent biblical characters, dramatising the passion of Christ, the death and resurrection of Christ. It starts on Palm Sunday - the commemoration of Jesus entry into Jerusalem, and ends on Easter Sunday (the Resurrection). Light, gunpowder, fireworks, music and flowers are constantly found in the Valencian celebrations. During the “Fallera” week, the city becomes an ironic 24 hours open museum, consisting of a collection of more than 350 artistic monuments made of paper mache and wax, created by an endless number of artists in different workshops from the city. Las Fallas are another typical symbol of the Valencian capital, where people go out with their colourful regional costumes.
Valencia offers to the visitors an unparalleled entertainment. The City of Arts and Sciences is a set of five works of art designed by the Valencian architect Santiago Calatrava, an impressive example of modern architecture. The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia, L’Hemisfèric, L’Umbracle, El Museu de les Ciències Prince Felipe and the Oceanographic Park.
Park Gulliver is undoubtedly the perfect place for the little ones enjoy this beautiful city. The park also has a mini golf course, a giant chess board, skating rinks and ramps and a lot of games to enjoy these magnificent gardens in the city centre. The Botanical Garden, considered one of the most complete and interesting in Europe is another tourist attraction without equal. Visitors can also enjoy the Zoo of Valencia which is located in the Viveros Royal Gardens. The Bioparc is a sprawling expanse where dozens of animal species from every part of the world lives. The visitors could have the impression to be in a Safari, as the majority of the animals are in enclosures without glass or cages.
